Wilfrid Laurier

Dear Parents,

We recognize as parents, you are dedicated to ensuring that your daughter has the best possible collegiate experience. Alpha Phi shares this goal and will provide a special home for your daughter while in university and for a lifetime. You can also be confident your daughter will find opportunities in Alpha Phi that will propel her to be successful throughout the course of her lifetime. Alpha Phi grants academic support, community service opportunities, commitment to leadership, sisterhood and support.

Students may join sororities at Laurier by participating in Formal Recruitment in September or January. Joining a sorority is a process of mutual selection to find the best fit between the organization and each individual woman. Ultimately, the sorority she chooses will become her home away from home.

Within Alpha Phi, the time commitment is usually the busiest as your daughter goes through the Chapter’s New Member program. This program gives her the chance to develop her leadership and time management skills, learn about the history of Alpha Phi, and make new friends. Alpha Phi has weekly meetings and other mandatory events, such as community service projects and philanthropy events, but they are planned well in advance. The more your daughter puts into it, the more she will gain from her membership!

Hazing or any activity that subjects members to harassment, ridicule, intimidation, physical exhaustion or mental distress is entirely contrary to the purposes of the sorority community and the University and is not permitted or tolerated. Sorority members are educated on the dangers of such practices on an ongoing basis.

Thank you for your interest in Alpha Phi. We look forward to having your daughter join our beloved sisterhood.

5 Reasons Your Daughter

Should Join ALPHA PHI

1. Academics
Your daughter is a potential member because her scholastic record brought her to an institution with an Alpha Phi chapter. We want to support your daughter’s vision to excel and to be a leader in and out of the classroom. We hope to foster your daughter’s creativity and drive in all aspects of her collegiate experience.

2. Commitment & Leadership
Alpha Phi is committed to your daughter’s membership experience. Our Founders vision was to create a women’s organization based on sisterhood, scholarship and service. We hold each of these tenants true today in all that we do and commit to you. Your daughter will learn life and professional skills that she will use over the course of her entire life.

3. Sisterhood & Support
The bonds of friendship tie each of our members together during college and post-graduate years. It is the friendships formed that lead to smiles, laughter, tears and ultimately memories that your daughter will cherish for a lifetime. In Alpha Phi, it is the individual that makes the difference in your experience – and a collection of brilliant individuals leads to the experience of a lifetime.

4. Tradition
Alpha Phi was founded in 1872 by ten of the first women to enter Syracuse University. When they were denied entrance to men’s fraternities, they created their own and began a path of sisterhood and friendship that holds 150 years of cherished moments and traditions. Each chapter upholds traditions begun by these ten remarkable women, while at the same time they hold dear customs created by the founders of their own chapters. While each member lives in the present, it is our past traditions that bind us all together.

5. Watchcare
Watchcare began with our Founders, who banded together to support each other for mutual growth. Watchcare has three components: the preservation of human dignity, risk management and the development of solid values and ethics to help our members make appropriate decisions. Watchcare offers the foundation for our members that hand in hand we will stay safe and grow to meet our highest potential.
